Understanding CSent

What CSent is — and what it isn't

CSent is a tool for communicating choices and keeping your own records. It is deliberately narrow about what it claims to do.

What CSent is

  • A way for two people to say, separately and clearly, what they are happy with.
  • A shared record of the choices made in a session, including changes and endings.
  • A private place to write an incident record or keep material you consider relevant.
  • A route to safety information, support organisations and NHS sexual health resources.
  • Educational content about consent, communication and wellbeing.

What CSent is not

  • Not proof of consent, and not a legal document.
  • Not a judge of whether an offence occurred.
  • Not a way to prove innocence or guilt.
  • Not a replacement for talking to each other during an encounter.
  • Not an emergency, medical, forensic, police or legal service.
  • Not a guarantee of anyone's safety or behaviour.

Using it well

CSent works best as a prompt for a real conversation, and a tidy place to keep what you decided.

Nobody should ever feel pressured to use it, or pressured because of what it shows.

CSent shares general educational information only. It does not determine whether consent legally existed, and it is not medical or legal advice.
