This notice should be read alongside our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
2. What these technologies are
Websites and web applications can store or access small amounts of information on your browser or device.
Depending on the technology, this may include:
- cookies;
- local or browser storage;
- cached files;
- service-worker storage;
- application preferences; and
- push-notification subscription information.
These technologies can perform different functions. Some are necessary for a service to work, while others may provide optional functionality or remember user preferences.
3. How CSent uses storage and access technologies
CSent currently uses limited storage and access technologies for purposes including:
- keeping users securely signed in;
- maintaining authentication;
- supporting invitation and return-to journeys;
- operating CSent as a progressive web application (PWA);
- operating Privacy Lock;
- remembering certain user preferences;
- remembering limited interface or reading choices; and
- supporting optional push notifications.
CSent does not currently use these technologies for behavioural advertising or advertising tracking.
CSent does not currently use analytics or marketing tracking technologies that require a user to be tracked across websites or services.
4. Sign-in and authentication
CSent uses storage necessary to maintain your authenticated session and allow you to remain securely signed in.
Without this storage, authenticated parts of CSent would not function correctly.
This storage is used for purposes such as recognising an authenticated session, maintaining secure access to your account and supporting authentication-related functionality.
Because this storage is necessary to provide the service you request when signing in, it cannot normally be disabled through CSent while you remain signed in.
Signing out ends or clears relevant authentication state according to the operation of the authentication service and browser.
5. Pending invitations and return destinations
CSent may temporarily store information necessary to preserve a pending Connection invitation or a safe in-app return destination while you move through the relevant account, sign-in or joining journey.
This helps CSent return you to the invitation or in-app destination you were attempting to use rather than losing that journey during authentication.
This storage is used for the relevant navigation or invitation journey and is not used for advertising or tracking.
6. Progressive Web App and service-worker storage
CSent can operate as a Progressive Web App.
A service worker may store limited application resources necessary to support the PWA experience.
CSent's current service-worker cache is intended for basic application resources such as the application manifest and CSent logo assets.
CSent does not intentionally use its service-worker cache to make private Connection information, Our Space content, private messages, Check In responses, Us responses, Boundaries, Private Records or other sensitive account content available for offline access.
CSent may also use limited storage flags when clearing or updating service-worker cache state.
7. Privacy Lock
If you enable Privacy Lock, CSent stores limited device-side information needed to operate that feature.
The current PIN-based design uses a randomly generated salt and a derived verification value so that the Privacy Lock PIN itself is not stored in readable form.
CSent also uses limited browser-session state to determine whether protected areas are currently unlocked in that browser tab or session, together with timing or lifecycle information needed to apply re-lock behaviour.
Clearing browser or site storage may reset Privacy Lock configuration or require you to configure it again. Privacy Lock is an additional interface-level control and does not replace your device's own security.
8. User preferences
CSent may store limited preferences on your browser or device so that the service can remember choices you have made.
These may include:
- muted Community discussions;
- one-time notice or reading-state preferences;
- interface or layout preferences.
These preferences are used to improve functionality and remember your choices. They are not used for behavioural advertising. Removing browser or site data may reset these preferences.
9. Push notifications
Push notifications are optional.
If you choose to enable them, CSent and your browser or device may create and retain a push subscription containing technical information necessary to deliver notifications to that browser or device.
Push notifications also depend on permissions controlled by your browser, device or operating system.
You can disable push notifications using CSent's available notification settings and/or your browser or device settings.
Push-subscription information may also be removed when it becomes invalid, when you disable the relevant functionality, when you sign out where applicable, or as part of account deletion and associated processes.
CSent aims to keep push-notification content discreet and avoid unnecessary sensitive information appearing on a device's lock screen.
10. Sidebar and layout storage
CSent may use a cookie or similar storage mechanism to remember limited interface-layout information, such as a sidebar state.
Its purpose is to remember an interface preference rather than to identify your interests for advertising or build a behavioural profile.
Deleting site data may reset the relevant layout preference.
11. Strictly necessary technologies
Some storage and access technologies are necessary for CSent to provide functionality requested by the user.
These currently include technologies necessary for purposes such as authentication and sign-in, preserving a pending invitation or safe in-app return journey, core application/PWA operation and, when enabled by the user, operation of Privacy Lock.
Where a technology is strictly necessary to provide the service requested by the user, CSent uses it for that purpose without using it for unrelated advertising or tracking.
12. Optional and functional technologies
Other technologies support optional features or remember preferences rather than being necessary for every part of CSent.
These may include:
- push-notification functionality;
- display or layout preferences;
- muted-discussion preferences; and
- limited reading or one-time-notice state.
Where browser or device permission is required for an optional feature such as push notifications, the relevant permission is requested through the applicable browser or device process. You can generally change these choices through CSent, your browser or your device, depending on the technology involved.
13. Analytics and advertising
CSent does not currently use:
- behavioural advertising cookies;
- cross-site advertising trackers;
- marketing pixels;
- third-party advertising cookies; or
- analytics technologies that currently require consent under the way CSent is configured.
For that reason, CSent does not currently display a general cookie-consent banner merely for the sake of displaying one.
If we introduce technologies in the future that require consent before storage or access takes place, we will update our practices and obtain the required permission before using those technologies where applicable.
14. Managing storage and cookies
Your browser or device may allow you to:
- view stored site information;
- delete cookies;
- clear browser or site storage;
- remove cached information;
- block certain storage technologies; and
- control notification permissions.
The exact controls depend on the browser, device and operating system you use. Blocking or deleting storage that CSent needs to operate may cause some features to stop working or may sign you out. Deleting functional storage may also reset preferences or Privacy Lock.
15. Clearing CSent data from your device
You can use your browser's site-data controls to remove locally stored CSent information.
Depending on your browser, this may remove authentication state, Privacy Lock configuration or session state, preferences, cached application resources and other locally stored CSent information.
Clearing information from your browser or device is not necessarily the same as deleting information held in your CSent account.
To request account deletion or exercise a data-protection right, use CSent's privacy controls or contact privacy@csent.app.
16. Third-party infrastructure
Some technologies used to operate CSent depend on service providers that provide infrastructure such as authentication, hosting, storage or push-notification delivery.
Those providers may process limited technical information as necessary to provide their services to CSent.
Further information about how we use service providers and process personal information is available in the CSent Privacy Policy.
17. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice if CSent's technology changes, we introduce or remove storage technologies, our use of cookies or similar technologies changes, or applicable legal requirements change.
The current version, effective date and last-updated date will be displayed on this page.
If we introduce non-essential technologies that require consent, we will implement an appropriate consent mechanism before using those technologies where required.
